"I am the navel of the Earth, in taut tension, found overwhelmed, rounded, dead, risen again... A call from a woman imprisoned, a woman crowned, a woman set within the delicacy of her own misery, a woman pinched by the wealth of her own strength. And it is Earth. ANONIMA is a tale of subversive female solidarity among women—perhaps a little uncomfortable, strange, magical, and against the tide—each in her own way. Inspired by Michela Murgia’s Morgane, her women who are a bit fairy and very much witches, and by tarantism, a cultural syndrome of southern Italy that predominantly affected marginalized women in a patriarchal and rural society, ANONIMA seeks to slowly dismantle the prejudice that confines femininity to being solely gentle and sacrificial.
