ANONIMA

"I am the navel of the Earth, in taut tension, found overwhelmed, rounded, dead, risen again... A call from a woman imprisoned, a woman crowned, a woman set within the delicacy of her own misery, a woman pinched by the wealth of her own strength. And it is Earth. The rhythm of the drum, the stomp of feet that shake the very entrails of the mother of all things, responding to the call sent from the Stars." (Luisa Piovesana)

ANONIMA is a tale of subversive female solidarity among women—perhaps a little uncomfortable, strange, magical, and against the tide—each in her own way. Inspired by Michela Murgia’s Morgane, her women who are a bit fairy and very much witches, and by tarantism, a cultural syndrome of southern Italy that predominantly affected marginalized women in a patriarchal and rural society, ANONIMA seeks to slowly dismantle the prejudice that confines femininity to being solely gentle and sacrificial.
